Vasco was born in Fort White FL. as Vasco McKinney to R.M.(Roscoe) & Lelia Braddock McKinney, (not McKenney as spelled on grave marker)(Lelia Braddock (his mother) is also buried in Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery) After the death of his father, his mother re-married and he was adopted by William B. Stephens of Henderson, TX, and the last name of Stephens was added. Therefore he became Vasco McKinney Stephens, at that time the middle name of William was also added because of his adopted father and he became known as Vasco William McKinney Stephens.
At the time of his death he left behind, a son, Vasco William (VW) Stephens (Juanita) and three grandsons, Vasco William III (Stevie), Fredrick Latineus (Freddie) and Kenneth Ray (Kenny)Stephens. He also left behind a daughter, Jeannette, two grandsons, Emil Stephen (Butch) Ferraris, David (Tony) Lee and a grand daughter, Gracie Jean Lee.

Some records indicate the McKenney name was actually spelled in this manner, however according too burial records of his birth father, it was spelled (McKinney). He was born Vasco McKinney and the name should read as two names not one, as inscribed on the headstone.
The Name he was known by was Vasco William or (VW) and the William only came to be after he was adopted by William B. Stephens. There are no records of his birth to be found. All information has been obtained through census records of 1900 and 1918 and from information shared by other individuals.
