Mark Abrahamian
Birth: Feb. 23, 1966
San Francisco
San Francisco County
California, USA
Death: Sep. 2, 2012
Madison County
Nebraska, USA

Guitarist. Abrahamian, who was a long-time member of the band Starship, learned to play guitar at the age of 10 after being prompted by his mother to "pick something to do this summer". He chose the guitar and was encouraged by her to practice for 15 minutes each day. Inspired by Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley and Eddie Van Halen of Van Halen, for the next few years he practiced for hours on end taking the guitar very seriously and it wasn't long before he was playing for his friends at parties. At the age of 17, he applied and went to GIT (The Musicians Institute) in Los Angeles where he discovered jazz, funk, blues and classical which intrigued and inspired him. Upon graduation he began playing around town with local bands as well as taking on some fifty students a week teaching his own method. Before landing his gig with Starship in 2001, whose hits included "We Built This City" and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," he played with Survivor, Toto, The Tubes, Loverboy, The Knack and Christopher Cross. Abrahamian collapsed backstage after a show and died of an apparent heart attack.  (bio by: Louis Mata)
