Enlisted, April 12, 1897, in Troop C Cavalry, Brooklyn, NY. Served with Troop C Volunteer Cavalry, in the Spanish American War. participated and saw combat in the Puerto Rico campaign. Discharged from volunteer service Nov. 25, 1898, Brooklyn, NY. He saw additional service with Troop C, during the Croton Dam Strike, April 1900.
1900, 1st Lieutenant, Quartermaster, 14th NY Infantry. Resigned from the 14th NY Infantry, 1901.
2nd Lieutenant, 1908, Squadron C Cavalry, Brooklyn , NY. Served with Squadron C successor organization, the 1st NY Cavalry Regiment, on the Mexican Border, 1916 - 1917. When the 1st NY was reorganized for the World War, he was transferred to the 102nd Ammunition Trains, 27th Division. Late transferred as a Major to the Small Arms Proving Ground, Springfield, MA
