"Henry" was baptized on 4 Dec 1864 as "Johann Friedrich Heinrich Loeper" at St. Peter's German Protestant Church in St. Louis, MO (now a UCC congregation). He was the son of Maria Lohheide and her first husband, Heinrich Loeper, who died around the time Henry was born. A few months later, Maria married another recent widower, Heinrich Borbein, and Henry eventually assumed the surname of his stepfather, who was the only father he ever knew. The only subsequent appearance of "Loeper" on official documents was for his 29 May 1889 marriage to Emma Tuegel at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. Otherwise, they and their descendants appeared with the Borbein surname. Thanks to Find A Grave Contributor: tyams (50459370)
