Robert "Bob" James Hicks Sr., 82, passed away Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, in Waco. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Ned Walton officiating. Burial will follow at the Chilton Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Adams Funeral Home.
Bob was born in Chilton, Texas, to the late James Everett and Opal Hicks. He attended high school in Chilton, as well as Farris School of Engineering and Marines in Houston, and Calhoun Engineering School in Baltimore, Md. Bob served in the United States Merchant Marines from 1942 until 1986, and loved his years at sea. On Aug. 10, 1979, he was united in marriage to Bobbie Ruth Lewis in Waco. He was a member and past Worshipful Master of the Chilton Masonic Lodge. He loved to fish, was very spontaneous and liked to have fun. He was a man who loved his family.
Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Marion Hicks.
Bob is survived by his wife of 29 years, Bobbie; his sons, Robbie Hicks, and Ron Lewis and wife, Sherry, all of Waco; daughters, Dawn Hall and husband, Matt, of Hewitt, and Ginia Chapline and husband, Michael, of Fort Worth; 23 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marianne Hayes and husband, Chick, of Chilton; brother, Darrell and wife, Pat, of Port Arthur; and many other family members and numerous friends.
