Richard Lee Turberville Beale III, 83, of Ruckersville, died on July 5, 2012. He was born on November 19, 1928, at "White Plains" in Sparta, to his parents, Richard Lee Turberville Beale and Mary Macon Burt Beale. After studying architecture and drafting at the Richmond Professional Institute, he designed several local buildings. He was a Chartered Life Underwriter and worked in the life insurance business prior to retirement. In 1968 he was elected president of the Virginia Baptist General Association and in more recent years, as an ordained minister, volunteered in prison ministries and worked with Emmaus. His tenor voice was a part of many trios, quartets, church choirs, and other singing groups. He was a member of Upper King and Queen Baptist Church. His talent for writing produced many stories and poems that were enjoyed and treasured by family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Beale Coates and on May 27, 2012 by his wife of 15 years, Janis Elaine Dudding Beale. He is survived by his children, Richard L. T. Beale IV, Rebecca B. Broaddus and Lynwood, and Frank B. Beale II and Jan; grandchildren, Richard L. T. Beale and Kristen, David L. Beale and Shelly, Gina B. Conley and Brian, Anna B. Burke and Justin, Andrew F. Beale and Kayti, Jessica L. Beale, Katie A. Beale, and Corinne C. Beale; and five great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 14, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Virginia. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to the Greene County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 302, Stanardsville, VA 22973 or Upper King and Queen Baptist Church, P.O. Box 40, Newtown, VA 23126.
