|Death: ||Aug. 24, 1923|
I just received Fannie Lisa Osmun McLaughlin's death certificate, so the information is starting to come in. Her father's name was Fred Osmun and he was born in Pennsylvania. Charles McLaughlin's First World War Draft Registration proves that Charles married Fannie by Sept 12, 1918, and that they were living in Oilton, Creek County, Oklahoma, but nothing more is known by the family at this time. They had no children.
The next mention of Charles and Fannie is an AP story filed in Bristow, Oklahoma on August 25th and printed in the Waco News-Tribune on page 3 of the August 26, 1923 paper. "Oklahoma Woman Kills Self As Husband Dies: Within an hour after her husband had died in a local hospital from injuries suffered in an oil field explosion, Mrs. Charles McLaughlin shot and killed herself in her home here early today. McLaughlin was injured Tuesday by parts of drilling machinery blown out of a gas well that had been ignited."
The death certificates show that Charles died at 5pm of his wounds, and that Fannie died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound an hour later.
