A Seneca man was killed instantly early Sunday in a head-on collision between his car & a tractor trailer on Rte8 just north of Harrisville.
JACK EDWARD BATTIN-Seneca was pronoun-ced dead at the scene by Thomas Steighner-Butler County deputy coronor. He attributed cause to a fractured skull. Butler state police said Battin was pinned in the wreckage of his 1967 sedan for a period of time following the accident at 2:45 AM. The operator & 2 pass-engers in the tractor trailer were injured in the collision. Addmitted to GroveCity Hosp were Milton York 43-SugarGrove, operator who was treated for contusions of the body; Randall York-12 treated for contusions & RobinLee York-10 treated for lacerations of the hand & forehead-ALL later released. Police said Battin was traveling north on Rt 8 1 mile west of Harrisville & York was operating his tractor trailer south on the roadway when the head-on collusion occurred. Both state police & Butler County coroner are continuing an investgation into the accident police said. Police said an estimated $15,000 damage occured to the tractor trailer. The Battin car was demolished, police added.
JACK EDWARD BATTIN--32: was born 26 Mar 1939 in Townville; a son of DonaldL & EdithA Tidd Battin & had lived in the OilCity area for the past 30 years. He had been employed as a salesman for RiceTrailer for the past 14 years. He served in the US Marines from 1 Feb 1957-30 Mar 1962 & was a PFC when he was dis-charged from the service. He was a member of the VFW in OilCity.
He & the former AnnE Sharpe were married 5 Jun 1960; she survives along with his mother MrsEdith Schoonover-Kennerdell; 4 children-at home: JackEdward Jr, BrianKeith, FaithAnn, EdithKay; 4 sisters: Pauline Jones-OilCity; Barbara (sp-Budd) Rice-Seneca; Lois (sp-Fred) Dawes-Rockland; Joan (sp-William) Ritchey-LaPalmaCA & a brother Donald Battin-Jamestown PA.
