JD DeSpain was the 3rd child of 13 born on April 02,1927 in Bassett, Arkansas to James Clifford DeSpain of Wilson, Arkansas and Alda Mae (née Hutcherson) of Nashville, Tennessee. He spent most of his childhood in and around Dyess, Wilson, Golden Lake & Bassett, Arkansas where the family made a living as sharecroppers, and picking cotton. He married Bevethel (née Goodwin) in 1948. They had four children; Anthia, JD Jr, Marsha Ann, and Donna Lynn. They moved to California in 1952. JD worked at Douglas Aircraft as a mechanic for many years. He then bought a gas station with his Brother-in-law. He pumped gas and soon became an auto mechanic.
He is survived by his daughters, Anthia Barba of Modesto, Ca. & Donna DeSpain of Ceres,Ca. Daughter-in-law Ilene DeSpain Of Burbank, Ca. His grandchildren: Johnaleah,Anthia Charlean, Ignacio Jr, Gildardo, JD III, Johnathan, Craig, Christopher, Bruce & Lynnette. Many great-grandchildren: JD Salvador, Ricardo, Jessica, Juan, Justin, Joseph, Junior, Erik, Marya, Ariana, Donovan, Danny, Ryan, Kasandra, Ashley, Zachary, Aubrey, Anthony, Marquez, Christian, Trinity, Bruce Jr, Bryson, Isabella, and Titus. He had 15 Great-Great Grandchildren. JD also has 3 surviving sisters Glenda Pelts (Allen) of Tyronza, Arkansas, Betty Williams(Rayburn)of Lakeland, Florida. Mary Matheson of Tennessee, and many nieces and nephews scattered throughout the United States and Canada. After losing his wife in 1997 he moved to Ohio to be with his son JD Jr, his wife Ilene and their children. He had a very fulfilling life. That was when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. JD spent the rest of his life walking with the Lord. Family meant everything to JD. Every one of them was very special to him. He has now left us to be with the Lord and the rest of his family. JD Sr was preceded in death by his beloved wife Bevethel, 2 children 1 Granddaughter 1 Grandson and 1 Great Grandson.. JD Jr, Marsha, Patsy Lou, Arturo & Cody, Nine of his siblings and both of his parents.
JD was ready when The Lord Called him home on Monday February 4, 2013. He will be dearly missed. He is gone but will never be forgotten. Until we meet again may you rejoice with the Lord our Savior. Family and friends are invited to visit from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 10th at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N Winchester Blvd. in Santa Clara; where the Funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 11th. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose.
