Joseph "Joe" Edward Marinello, 87, a long time resident of Del Mar passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 31, 2009 in San Marcos. He was born on September 23, 1921 in Sunnyvale, California.
Joe graduated from Fremont High School in 1938. He was a successful business owner who in 1951 founded and developed the University Showcase and Fixture Company in San Diego. University Showcase and Fixture Company was a large manufacture of wood fixtures and cabinets. He was the president of the Woodworkers Institute of California for two terms. He was given an award by the Salk Institute for Biological Studies for his contributions to the construction of their facility in La Jolla.
Joe served in the Navy during WWII and moved to San Diego in 1943. He was an avid golfer and participated in local golf tournaments.
He is survived by his sister Gloria Alameda of San Diego. His children, Larry Marinello of RSF, Len Marinello of Vista, Kenny Marinello of Encinitas, Valerie Hendricks of Vista, Deborah Brown of Texas, Keith Hamilton of Washington, and Bruce Hamilton of Reno. Joe has many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 4th from 4:00PM - 8:00PM at El Camino Memorial in San Diego. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 5th at 2:00PM at El Camino Memorial. A celebration of his life will follow. In leu of sending flowers please send donations to the Hospice of North Coast in Encinitas, www.hospicenorthcoast.org.
