Frances E. Gavin, age 95 of Sandwich, IL passed away Sunday, December 2, 2001 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion, Sandwich, IL. She was born February 22, 1906 in Serena, IL the daughter of Joseph and Louise (Grandadam) Witt. Frances was united in marriage to Leo Gavin on January 19, 1927 in Somonauk, IL.
Frances and her late husband Leo farmed in the Leland, Somonauk, Sandwich area their entire lives. Frances was not only a mother to her children but a farmers wife helping with the farming chores along with the planting and harvesting of the crops. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. Frances was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Sandwich, IL.
Survivors include two sons, Lawrence (Alma) Gavin of Sheridan, IL, Harold (Joan) Gavin of Sandwich; two daughters Doris Ann (Robert) Duea of Walker, Minnesota, Ellen (Lionel) Baumet of Sandwich; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leo in 1977; three sisters, Margurite Rompf, Florence Fox, and Isabel Florent; one brother, Clarence Witt; three grandchildren, twins, Lisa and Louise Baumet and Kristie Baumet.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2001 at 11:00 A.M., at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Sandwich. Fr. Jack T. Heraty will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Somonauk, IL. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2001 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Burkhart Funeral Home, Sandwich, with a liturgical wake service at 7:30 P.M. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Memorial may be made in Frances's name to St. Paul's Catholic Church Building Fund. Arrangements by Burkart Funeral Home, Sandwich, IL 815-786-2165.
