Reuben Pitcher Parkhurst and twin brother Raymond were born on the Parkhurst family homestead in Oswego, IL on 27 May 1883. They were the first born sons of Amos James Parkhurst and Alice Lillian Head. He followed his father's footsteps and became very active in their church: "Preparations are being made for an Easter program at the morning hour by the Sunday school and the evening hour by the Christian Endeavor whose new president, Reuben Parkhurst, is proving himself to be the right man in the right place." 9 Mar 1910 Kendall County Record. He was also on the finance board of the First Presbyterian Church in Oswego. He was a gifted musician and played the baritone horn in the Specie Grove Band with his father and his three brothers.
Reuben married Etta Bushnell on 11 Apr 1906 at her grandparents home in Watervliet, MI. They had four children: James Clark (Jessie M. High), Elizabeth June (Howard E. Lange), Anita Mae (George Popp) and Virginia Louise (Richard G. Moran). He worked for many years on the family farm then on the Cherry family farm and finally for Wertheimer Cattle Company in Montgomery.
He was loved by all who knew him being a kind and gentle man. He was five feet three and one half inches tall, fair complected and had blue eyes. He passed away of coronary artery disease on 2 Nov 1943 at 60 years of age at his home in Aurora. His body was laid to rest at Spring Lake Cemetery on 5 Nov 1943. His soul lives on in his family and he is remembered with great love.
