Probably moved to Pine Swamp Creek, Alleghany, NC area with parents when father purchased land there in 1885, although older two sons (when they enlisted in army) claimed to have been born in Wilkes Co., N.C.
1902 - Had severe asthma & arthritis, traveled to La Plata Co,Col/San Juan Co.,NM area for his health's sake. Accompanied by Billings & Holcomb families.
1904 - two older sons joined him at Bryantine, NM.
1905 - Divorced his wife on suspicion of adultery.
May, 1905 - Paid for 4 of his other children to travel to Colorado/NM by train to live with him.
1908 - Fell into ice cold H2O, and health much improved temporarily.
Ran a store in Durango.
Not a fun sort of guy - son Levi said, "We were not very kind to him because he never seemed to care for us. Perhaps he wasn't a happy man because he never seemed to laugh nor even smile as we went through our many antics and foolishness."
Sons Murray & Ted made his casket, bought him a suit for $12 from J.C. Penneys in which to be buried, next to 1st wife, Bettie.
