ST. GEORGE, Utah - Bert J. Bowman, 84, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007. He was born March 7, 1923, in Washington, D.C. to Bert and Violet Miller Bowman. He married Nancy Ann Bohrer on April 6, 1954, in Arlington, Va.
Bert was raised and educated in Washington, D.C. At 19, Bert enlisted in the U.S. Army. He lived in England for two years during the buildup to the invasion, and landed on Utah Beach with his supply squadron shortly after the initial invasion. After the war, he returned to D.C. and became an electrolytic plate maker for the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, where he worked with the presses which produced paper currency and stamps for the country. He raised his family in Arlington, Va., and Washington County prior to retiring to St. George. He loved hunting, the Redskins, studying the Civil War, animals, and being with his family. He had a strong, simple testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and loved genealogy.
He is survived by his four children, Judy Stewart of Las Vegas, Marcie and husband Paul Duston of St. George, Jonathan and wife Sveta Bowman of Concord, Calif. and David and wife Cindy Bowman of Minneapolis. He also has 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy, who passed away on April 1, 2001.
He will finally be able to rest next to Nancy again. Burial will take place at Union Chapel Cemetery in Morgan County, W.Va. The viewing will be today from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with the funeral at 11 a.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
