Birth: Aug. 20, 1957
Des Moines
Polk County
Iowa, USA
Death: Aug. 7, 1979
Sevier County
Utah, USA

Richard May moved to Fullerton, CA from Des Moines, IA at an early age. He was a very athletic youth, participating in Fullerton Little League as a pitcher, and leading his team to a 13-0 record in the 1967 season. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America and became an Eagle Scout at age 13 in 1971.

A devout Catholic, Richard attended grades 1-8 at St. Mary's Catholic School in Fullerton. He graduated from Servite High School in Anaheim in 1975, where he lettered in both football (Varsity) and golf (JV). He attended Fullerton College, gaining an Associate in Arts degree in 1978 and singing in the school's A Cappella Choir. He was enrolled at Cal State Fullerton at the time of his death.

On the afternoon of 8/7/79, Richard and a friend were entering Elsinore, Utah on US 89 when the car he was driving crossed the center line of the highway along a curve and collided with another vehicle. He died about 9pm at Sevier Valley Hospital in Richfield. The driver of the other vehicle, Leona Hansen, 69, died of her injuries several weeks later. Richard's friend Derrick Vallin survived.
