Mrs. Mereda Mae "Rita" Akin, 70, of Point Enterprise, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Haven Nursing Home in Mexia. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, May 27, 2006, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 28, 2006, in Brushy Cemetery.

Mereda was born on December 15, 1935, in Centerville, Texas, to the late John Alfred "Pete" and Lacie Beatrice Berry Phillips. She retired as a Direct Care Helper at Mexia State School and was a member of the Living Word Church in Groesbeck.

Survivors include her son, Rickey Fowler, of Bryan; daughters, Lisa Gilmore, of Dallas, and Tina Lehrmann, of Mexia; grandchildren: Bradon Lehrmann, Alesha Zaragoza, Kelly Gilmore, and Avery Fowler; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Kaleb Zaragoza; and sister, Lorine Noey, of Marquez.
