Postwar, married to Ida Geraldine Blanton, he lived at 1408 Main Street, Fredericksburg, Va.; father of Walter L. Jr., and Thomas S.; bookkeeper, later secretary-manager of C.E. Hunter, F.F. Plow Works & groceries at 816 Main Street; member of the Masonic Royal Arcanum, Fredericksburg Council No. 416 (Warden); Home Building Association (Secretary).
The 19th Heavy Artillery Battalion was organized in June, 1862, with four companies, later increased to five. This unit was attached to the Department of Richmond and served throughout the war defending the city.
