John Boyd, 25, Is Missing On African Front
- Mr. and Mrs. Art Boyd of Plainview Township Notifed By War Department Monday Morning -
John Boyd, 25-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Boyd of Plainview township, has been reported missing in action.
In a telegram to his parents Monday morning, the war department stated that he had been missing since November 8 on the Northwest African front. His parents had last heard from him October 9 when mail reached them from Ireland, where he had apparently been stationed.
John entered the army in Kansas city October 15, 1941, and was sent to Fort Knox, Ken. where he received training in the tank corps. He was believed to be in an infantry unit attached to the tank corps, however.
The young man in grew up in Plainview township, and was a graduate of Logan
High School. He had been away from Phillips County the past four or five years, however, and was employed in Kansas City prior to the time he entered the army.
There are four other children in the family, two brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Noel Krauss, and Mrs. Dudley Wiltrout, sisters, both of Kansas City, Mo., arrived here on the Rocket Tuesday morning.
This community was saddened Monday of last week when news was received that that John Boyd was reported to be among the missing on the Northwestern African Front. John was a graduate of Logan schools.
