Alva immigrated to Syracuse,New York from Hastings county,Ontario with his sisters and brothers. He resided with his sisters "Libbie" and "Nellie" in Syracuse,New York as indicated on the 1880USF census taken for Syracuse,New York. While residing in Syracuse Alva never married. His occupation was initially a book clerk and later on worked for his brother George as a wagon painter. Following Georges' death, Alva traveled back to Sophiasburg,Prince Edward County,Ontario where he died while residing with a relative.
