Anchorage resident John J. "Jack" Gold Jr., 60, died March 26, 2004, at home after a courageous fight against cancer. A full military honor memorial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. A celebration of his life will follow at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9981, on the Old Seward Highway. All are invited to attend. Mr. Gold was born Dec. 31, 1943, in Hartford, Conn. "Starvin' Jack" was a former Green Beret, 5th Special Forces Group, and a retired U.S. Army Ranger, 2nd Battalion, 75th Infantry Rangers, chief warrant officer 3. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1985 and made Alaska his home that year. Mr. Gold worked at Clear Air Force Base, Cook Inlet Pre-Trial in Anchorage and for BP. He loved his adventurous trips while working on the North Slope. Survivors are his wife, Jacquelin Gold of Anchorage; the mother of his children, Linda Dell Miller of Dallas; son, Joseph Kane Gold of Dallas; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Marie and Dennis Dees of Katy, Texas, Rebecca and Scott McLain of Oklahoma City, and Penelope and Brad Paulson of Fairbanks; stepsons, Nathan Eastman of Anchorage, Zachary Eastman of Naples, Fla., and Trevor Eastman of Naples; stepdaughter and her husband, Megahn and Tarron Smith of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Justin, Donovan, Hannah, Austin, Micah, Marissa, Willow, Ariadne, Elliot, Magnus, Carissa and DeMorris; father, John Gold Sr. of New Britain, Conn.; brother and sister-in-law, James and Sandra Gold of Norwich, Conn.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ellen and Dave Repoli of New Britain, Kathleen and Rodney Jarvela of Key West, Fla., Louise Gold of New Britain and Christeena Doering of Pinellas Park, Fla.; and many close friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Kane Gold. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Arrangements were by Anchorage Funeral Home and Crematory.
