Thanks to Beth Sanders for the transfer of Mary's memorial.

Mary was the daughter of David W. & Mildred J. (Bostick) Heard. She had two siblings, John Bostick & David Woodson (known as Woodie).

An announcement of her marriage to Ernest Junior Altgelt was published in a San Antonio newspaper, The Daily Light, on December 6, 1895.

"The marriage of Miss Mamie Heard to Ernest A. Altgelt is announced to take place in St. Mark's church, Tuesday, December 17, 9 a.m."

Over the years Ernest stayed busy with land deals, and Mary stayed busy having children and seeing to their care.

Mary gave birth to Augustus Albert on September 2, 1896. Her second son, Woodward Woodson, arrived on Christmas day, 1902, and to Ernest Junior on September 28, 1905.

Mary was especially happy when little Ernest won a baby contest at the fair.

San Antonio Daily Light
November 28, 1905

The baby show was the most interesting and entertaining feature of the fair today. At 11 o'clock this morning the little ones, accompanied by their mothers or nurses, filed into Music hall to be inspected and receive prizes. It was quite amusing to watch the anxious expressions on he faces of the mothers as they exhibited their various charges. ...

First among the babies exhibited were those ranging from 1 to 6 months of age. They were boys. The winner of this contest was Ernest Altgelt, aged 2 months. Ernest J. Altgelt is the father of the little fellow. The prize consisted of a knife, fork and spoon."

Mary's father died from Pneumonia on February 3, 1908; her mother died the following year, March 5, 1909. The following October 25th she gave birth to their last son, Daniel Dane.

Mary's husband died on October 27, 1943.

On July 29, 1948 Mary went to New York to visit her son, Ernest, & his wife, at their home in Irvington on the Hudson. She stayed two months

Mary was living in San Antonio when she died at 9:42 a.m. on May 5, 1957, from a Cerebral Thrombosis." She had lived 81 years, 11 months, & 9 days.
