Emma Katherine Beanblossom was born on May 14, 1895, near Cook, Neb. She was the daughter of George H. and Talka Marie Bohlken Dirks. She died Friday Sept. 21, 1973, in Geneva, Neb.,having reached the age of 78 years, 4 months and 7 days.
She was baptized as an infant and was confirmed into the
Christian faith at the Zion Lutheran Church in Carleton,
Her family lived on a farm east of Carleton and she attended school at District 3.
While in her early teens the death of her mother forced her to quit school and she took on the care of the home including three younger sisters and a younger brother.
Dec. 20,1916, she was married to Fred R. Beanblossom of
Oshkosh, Neb. The wedding took place at Talmage, Neb.,
and the first few years of their married life were spent at Pine Bluffs, Wyo.
Mr. and Mrs. Beanblossom moved to Carleton in 1920 where
he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. This
marriage was blessed with seven daughters and one son,
Ida, Maxine, Roma Faye, Doris, Helen, Wauneta, Shirley
and Fred,. Helen passed away in 1928 at only two years of age.
They were members of the Bethel Church of the Brethren
until Dec. 10, 1960, when they united with the Methodist
Church in Carleton.
Mr. Beanblossom preceded his wife in death on Oct. 31,1969.
Mrs. Beanblossom had been in failing health for a number of years.
Mrs. Beamblossom was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her daughter, Helen Marie; parents; a sister, Mrs. Sophia Smith of Thurston,Neb.; a granddaughter, Connie Jolene Skinner; and a great-granddaughter, Lisa Jolene Blau.
She is survived by her six daughters, Mrs. Virgil Busch,
(Ida) of Davenport, Mrs. Luverne McKay (Maxine) of Lincoln, Mrs. Harold Leggett(Roma Faye) of Manteca, Calif., Mrs. Dale Skinner(Doris) of Davenport, Mrs. Herbert Ahrens (Wauneta) of Fairbury, Mrs. David Thies (Shirley) of Potter; one son, Fred Beanblossom, of Grand Island; two sisters, Mrs. William VanSkiver of Davenport and Mrs. Amos Hoffert of Potter, Neb.; one brother, Edward Dirks, Hastings; 21 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service for Mrs. Beanblossom were held on
Tuesday, Sept. 25 in the Carleton United Methodist
Church. Pastor Charles W. Leypoldt officiated.
Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery north of Carleton, Neb., with Urbauer Funeral Home in charge.
