HOSCHTON - William "Bill" Bettie, 69, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Peachtree Christian Hospice, Duluth, following an extended illness.
Mr. Bettie was born in Madison County, Tenn., a son of the late Tom and Callie Lee Hale Bettie.
He was a member of Lathem's Chapel Baptist Church, Lavinia, Tenn., and was a member of Auburn Lodge #228, F. & A.M. and the Chamblee Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons. Mr. Bettie was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and was retired from Greyhound Bus Lines. He was preceded in death by a brother, John T. "Elmo" Bettie.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at Sharon Baptist Church with the Revs. Marion Prather and Robbie Black officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bettie is survived by his wife, Mary Coleman Bettie, Hoschton; children, Dianne Bettie, Hoschton, and Chuck Bettie and Wanda Pentecost, both of Winder; grandchildren, Jeremy Bettie, Tiffany Bettie, Max Pentecost and Britt-Elise Pentecost, all of Winder; brother, Thomas Edward Bettie, Medina, Tenn.; two sisters, Sue Rogers, Memphis, Tenn., and Nettie Sue Bratcher, Gibson, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family was to have received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home, Winder.
