Elsie Helen Beatrice Fregin Ewig, the last of seven children of Robert August and Prudence Nellie Fregin was born in the house that her father had built on Carlyle Avenue in Ottawa, Canada. The family continued to live there until they moved to the USA in 1916. Her father was a carpenter who built houses. They lived in them for awhile then rented it out after the next house was built. Elsie and H. William Ewig were married on Feb. 12, 1938 in Troy, New York, shortly after he graduated from RPI. She started working at the Savage Arms company as a checker and engraver from 1930 until the birth of her first child in 1940. Bill and Elsie built a home on Oxford Road in New Hartford, NY around 1941 and they lived there until Elsie moved to Temecula, California to live with family in 1992. She was active in the local Home and Garden Club in New Hartford; hunted with the beagles that she so loved; traveled all over the US in their travel trailer and was a creative artist with her sewing, painting and crafts. She passed peacefully in her daughter's home one month after a massive stroke.
