Mary Frances DeVies was born December 3, 1873 in a log motel at Livona, Washington County, Indiana. Her mother and brother were in a covered wagon train going from Brumfield, Kentucky enroute to the Oregon Territory to homestead land.
They only got as far as this motel where she was born. A few days later they went on as far as Maysville, Indiana. Here she grew up, met and married Henry Rudyard on June 21, 1892.
This couple had five children: Lilla Jane, Daisy Kathryn, Clarence Jefferson, Nellie Belle and Virginia Jewel Delaine.
Mary Frances died October 23, 1937. She and Henry Clay Rudyard are both buried at the Oak Grove Cemetery at Washington, Daviess County, Indiana.
