Arthur Lee Burch, 80, of Tyler, went to be with our Lord, Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at Hospice of East Texas. Arthur's life was characterized by a love for his family, his friends and his Lord.
He was born in Palestine, Texas, Dec. 10, 1925, to Elmo and Velma Burch. The family moved to Dallas where Arthur was active in his church and community and was well known as a Sunset High School athlete. After a tour of duty with the 8th Air Force in World War II, he returned to Texas A&M where he lettered in football and baseball. He married Martha Meanor, his wife of 59 years, and they moved to Tyler in 1950 to begin his career as an architect. Hundreds of churches, schools, houses and public buildings stand throughout Texas as his creative legacy. He was a longtime member, teacher and deacon of Green Acres Baptist Church of Tyler.
He is survived by his wife Martha; daughter and son-in-law: Marty and Neal Smith, children Burch, Blake and Andrew; sons and daughters-in-law: Scott and Lori Burch, children Ross and Robin; Brian and Mary Burch, children Ben, Sam and Gillen; Lee and Lea Ellen Burch, children Daniel, Claire and Phillip; and friends across Tyler, the State and the Nation.
Services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Green Acres Baptist Church Chapel. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. at the Chapel followed by the service at 3 p.m. under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors. Interment is at Rose Hill Cemetery.
If desired, memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, or a charity of your choice.
