NORTH COUNTY MAN KILLED
PORTER TRUCKER IS PINNED IN WRECKAGE IN ROCKVILLE AREA
Lowell H. Moomau, 40, of Porter, was killed Tuesday when a tractor-trailer loaded with steel which he was operating was wrecked on U.S. 41, five and one-half miles south of Rockville, Ind.
State police said Moomau's truck plunged from the highway and rolled over several times. He was dead when removed from the wreckage.
Moomau lived in Porter at 215 Beam Street for the last three years, and prior to that at Shadyside on U.S. 20 for nine years. For several years up until about a year ago he operated the Inter-City cab company in Chesterton and Porter.
The decedent was born at Urbana, Champaign County, Ill, Nov 22, 1908. He served in the U.S. Army in the recent World War, and was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are the widow, Lillie; one sister, Mrs. Eunice Challoner, of Hammond, and two brothers, Benedict Moomau of Lincoln, Neb., and Chester Moomau, of Hammond.
Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Edmonds Brother's funeral home in Chesterton, with the Rev. Elmer Young, of the Shadyside Gospel Mission officiating. Burial will be in Chesterton cemetery with the Chesterton American Legion post in charge of committal services at the grave.
Friends may call at the Edmonds funeral home this evening and up until time of the services Thursday.
