ST. JOHN'S MILITARY SCHOOL CHEF DIES AT 57
Frank C. Moomau, 57, 6 College Court, known for his ice carvings and the elaborate buffets he prepared at St. John's military school where he was the chef, died of a heart attack Wednesday night.
Mr. Moomau was stricken while preparing and taking food for 700 people to the 4H building where the Thursday Thanksgiving dinner for St. John's cadets and their guests was to be held.
Mrs. Keith Duckers, wife of the St. John's superintendant, told The Journal Thursday morning the school planned to go ahead with the dinner as scheduled.
Mr. Moomau was pronounced dead on arrival at Asbury hospital.
He and his wife, Renee, a native of Paris, France, were preparing to leave next month for a visit in France. The couple met there while Mr. Moomau was serving with the U.S. Infantry during World War 2.
Mr. Moomau was born March 16, 1912, in Medicine Lodge. Mr. Moomau was the chef at the Newton Elks lodge prior to coming to Salina 9 years ago.
He was a member of Salina Blue lodge 80, the Elks lodge, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Friends Church.
In addition to his widow, of the home, he is survived by a brother, Walter, Denver, Colo., and 3 sisters, Mrs. George Hogan and Mrs. Hugo Thom, both of Medicine Lodge, and Mrs. Wilburt Lawrence, Gilroy, Caiif.
Arrangements will be announced by the Rush Smith funeral home.
