BLACK, Carl C. of Cameron. Age 90. Died 3/19/1989 (Sunday) in a Temple nursing home. Burial 3/21/1989 (Tuesday) at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Rev. Jim Lafferty officiated. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
He was BORN 2/19/1899 in Milam Co. Joined the Sheriff's Dept. as a deputy in 1941. Became County Sheriff in a special election, July, 1944. He retired in 1976 after 32 years as Sheriff of Milam Co. He was a member of Cameron Volunteer Fire Dept. for 20 years. His philosophy was "to work all the time and be on call 24-hours a day, 7 days a week". Member of Little River Baptist Church and a member of San Anders Masonic Lodge #170.
SURVIVORS: Son, Bill Black of Belton; daughter, Martha Maxwell of Los Angeles, CA.; 2 sisters, George Black and Janie Siebrecht, both of San Antonio and 5 grandchildren.
