1932 - 2012
Rev. Manuel L. Bennett, 79, of Jay, FL slipped away from us on Monday, November 5, 2012 into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Rev. Bennett retired from the U.S. Navy after 21 years service; retired from the Berrydale Water System after 20 years; was a Volunteer Fireman and Chaplain with the Berrydale Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years; a Chaplain at Jay Hospital for many years and held the offices of Secretary and Treasurer for the District Sectional of United Pentecostal Church.
Rev. Bennett was Pastor of the Berrydale United Pentecostal Church for over 30 years where he served faithfully and was dedicated to his congregation.
He is preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years, Gladys Bennett; his beloved daughter, Renee Vunkannon along with 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
Rev. Bennett is survived by his loving second wife, Veatrice Bennett; his daughter, Sheila Edgecumbe; 3 granddaughters; Cassandra (Tracy) Hobbs, Michele (Michael) Jackson, and Jennifer Edgecumbe; 5 great- grandchildren, Ashlee, Tracey and Jared Hobbs and Shai "Kota" and Cheyanna Jackson; along with 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the First Pentecostal Church of Bagdad, Bagdad, Florida on Friday, November 9, 2012 with Rev. Curtis Powell, Rev. Jimmy Mitchell, Rev. Anthony Mitchell and close friend, Bro. George Morrow, officiating. Interment to follow in the Berrydale United Pentecostal Church Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flower the family request contributions be made to the Apostolic Life UPC of Pensacola in support of the Tupelo Children's Mansion.
