Civil War Veteran, Pvt. U.S. Army, Co. H, 10th Ohio Cav.
12/10/1863 - 6/10/1865

According to his military pension file, Walter S. Francis married Salina J. McNair on May 2, 1865. They had two sons: Earl B Francis (b. May 13, 1866 in Michigan) and Joseph Walter Francis (b. July 11, 1869 in Michigan). Walter S. Francis was the son of Samuel Francis. He died suddenly while visiting his sister Elva Francis Leseur in McLane, with a sudden onset of "chronic diarrhea" and "joint pain." Due to the rural area, there was no undertaker. His body was transported by a friend to the local cemetery and his death was not recorded by the local register. Several affidavits of his death were later completed by friends and family members confirming the date and details of his death when his widow Salina was applying for military pension benefits.
