One of County's Earliest Pioneers is Dead.
Came to County 49 Years Ago.

William H. Loop, of Elmira, passed away at his home last Sunday morning from an attack of acute indigestion. Funeral services were conducted at the home Tuesday afternoon, the body being taken to Grand Rapids for burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

William Loop was born September 21, 1864 at Sparta, Kent County, Michigan, where he lived until he was 21 yearw of age, when he came to Elmira, and has been a continuous resident since.

January 21, 1897 he was married to Hattie Stark who, with two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Showers and Miss. Helen Loop, survive. One daughter and one son proceeded him in death. He is also survived by two brothers, Norman Loop of Detroit and Ray Loop of Ashton, Michigan; two grandchildren survive also.

For 49 years Mr. Loop was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad. Last October he was retired on a pension.

Mr. Loop was a man who was respected by everybody who knew him; a kind father and husband, and a friend of everyone. He was a member of the K.O.T.M. order.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Loop of Grand Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Loop of Detroit; Mrs. Flossie Willoughby of Fife Lake; Miss. Helen Loop of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Vern Showers of Detroit; and Ray Loop of Ashton.

Mr. Loop's death was a real shock to everyone. He had been ill only a few hours. Saturday afternoon he went to the post office as usual and spent some time visiting with friends down town. Shortly after having eaten his supper he became ill, and died the next morning.

Being of a jolly and happy nature and never complaining, and always with a word of cheer for others, his death was a terrible shock to all.
