Born near Lancaster, Pennsylvania,to David and Catherine Keizer-Bartholomew.
George married Fanny Bowman on September 4, 1844, in Pennsylvania. George was a millwright and a farmer. Fanny's parents were great friends with George's parents for years, long before the couple married. The 1st 5 children were born in Strasburg, PA and in 1854 they moved to Licking County, Ohio. In March 1865, they moved again to Farmington, Illinois. In March 1879, they moved to Rockport, Kansas and staked a land claim near Stockton. The claim was on Bow Creek. They built a sod brick house with multiple rooms. In the fall of 1880, George got ill with liver & kidney disease. By December he was bed-ridden. He passed away in January.
About 1902, Albert & Caroline (Young) White bought the Bartholomew Estate, their daughter Emma Lillian "Lillie" married Lee Montgomery Bartholomew , George & Fanny's grandson (Elam's youngest child). Lillian described the sod house in a letter she wrote to my mother in 1977. "The Bartholomew's sod house was divided into seven rooms with curtains. It had a small kitchen to the east, a dining room, a living room, and one bedroom on the first floor and two bedrooms on the second. Eventually, the sod roof got to leaking so badly and the family was at the place where they could help, so they just had to rebuild it. After the Whites sold the Bartholomew estate and the 160 acres to Earl Bartholomew, another of George & Fanny's grandchildren. This site included the Mount Lebanon School."
