Jones, George Buchanan Bio. Vol. I 1980 Stewart County Tennessee page 224
George Buchanan Jones, son of J.A. (Jimmy) Jones, and Margaret Frances Waggoner, was born 18 August 1856. Jimmy came from North Carolina to Cane Creek in Houston County, Tennessee, prior to 1850. He married Margaret Frances Waggoner, and they were the parents of seven children. Jimmie moved his family to the Standing Rock Community in 1858. Jimmy served in the Civil War and was captured at Ft. Donelson and imprisoned in Illinois. He was exchanged at Vicksburg.
One of Jimmy's sons, George Buchanan, married Rebecca Ann Mc Gee, about 1876 in Stewart County, Tennessee. George and Becky Ann had nine children; James Henry, Mary Ann and Martha (twins), Callie Florence, William Elbert, Sam L. Thomas Jefferson, Charlie Armstrong and John Wesley Jones.
They lived and farmed the land that Henry Hicks McGee had given to Rebecca, close to her brothers and sisters. When this book was published in 1980, the youngest son John Wesley Jones was still living in the family home.
Rebecca Ann Jones died in 1908. In August, 1909, George Buchanan Jones married Elizabeth Durdin Berry of Benton County, Tennessee. Elizabeth had five living children and one deceased. On August 23, 1911, Mary Frances was born to George Buchanan and Elizabeth Jones. After her parents died, she married J.H. Flood and lived in Clarksville.
Jimmy, George and Thomas Jones and their families contributed much toward making the Standing Rock Community a good place in which to live. They were loyal members of the Standing Rock Methodist Church, taking the lead in all of the endeavors that contributed to a better living.
George Jones died 18 September 1938. Jimmy, and George are both buried in the Jones Cemetery on the Walter Settles place, down the road a piece from Standing Rock Church.
(In 2012 the Jones Cemetery has been renamed the SOLOMAN DAWSON CEMETERY)
