HANNIBAL - Miss Sadie M. Adamy, 79, widely-known local educator, died Tuesday at her home on Auburn Street after a long illness.
Miss Adamy, who was honored several years ago by having a school named in her honor in Hannibal, was a native of this village and was the daughter of the late Oscar and Ada Coffinger Adamy, early settlers of the town.
She was a graduate of the Hannibal school and was a member of the first graduating class from the high school here in 1901. In 1910, she won a trip to Europe. Miss Adamy taught in area schools for 48 years, 33 of which were in the local school.
She was a past president of the Alumni Association and organized the student council at the school in 1935. She was honored in 1956 when the junior high school was named in her honor. She retired in 1954.
She was a life member of the former Presbyterian Church now the Hannibal Community Church and was member of its Mizpah Class. She was also a past matron of the Huldah Chapter, order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Lula A. Horth of Hannibal, two brothers, Victor J. Adamy of Medina and E. Ward Adamy of Cooperstown and Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Hannibal Community church, the Rev. Orval McBride officiating. Burial will be in Hannibal cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home.
