John Thomas Mayes was the son of J. G. Mayes and P. A. White.
On December 16, 1883 he married Ona Evans in Denton County, Texas. There they had three children and then moved to Oregon (sometime between 1892 and 1895)where they had seven more children.
He was a carpenter, and according to the 1910 US Federal Census he worked in a lumber mill. (See 1910 US Federal Census for St. Johns, Multnomah County, Oregon, ED112, Sheet #15, Line #16).
He lived in Oregon over 20 years, the last 10 years at 515 Philidelphia Street, St. Johns. (Source: Death Certificate).
He died at 12:45 a.m. on December 4, 1914. The cause of death is listed as "Uremic Coma with complications from Valvulas Lesion of Heart and Apoplexy".
