United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Mitchell was killed in the Vietnam War.
Paul was awarded the Silver Star Medal:
The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Paul H. Mitchell, Jr. (2103805), Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with Company M, 3d Battalion, 4th Marines, 3d Marine Division (Rein.), FMF, in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam on October 5, 1966. By his courage, aggressive fighting spirit and steadfast devotion to duty in the face of extreme personal danger, Corporal Mitchell upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
Paul is honored on the Vietnam Memorial Wall 11E049.
