Born in Butler County, Ohio, Augustus Dine was the only child of William Dine and Elizabeth [Squire] Dine. He came to Indiana with his Mother and Grandparents Squire in the 1860s. At age 20, he was in Madison Township, Carroll County, near Delphi, working the farms as a laborer. He married Sarah Elizabeth Cook on 2 October 1883 at Lafayette, Tippecanoe, Indiana and settled in the town of Colburn. Augustus became a carpenter by trade, and was a member of Carpenter's Union #15 and Tippecanoe Camp #17, known as 'Woodmen of the World'. The family moved to Lafayette in the early 1900s, and lived at 1830 Salem Street, where Augustus died at the residence in 1928. According to his obituary, Augustus Dine was 'A well-thought of man'. He was survived by a Son, two Daughters, and three Grandsons.
