Moses Jackson Imes
Birth: Nov. 19, 1823
Cumberland
Allegany County
Maryland, USA
Death: Sep. 23, 1914
Woodinville
King County
Washington, USA

The first members of the Imes family came from Scotland between 1670 and 1700. The name Imes, sometimes spelled Inmes or Eymes or Eymas,or Ijames, is of Welsh origin. Moses was born in Maryland in 1823, and married Mary Ellen Davis, born in Pennsylvania, in 1823. The family moved from Holmes County, Ohio to Madison County, Iowa about 1850, and there is an Imes Bridge on the Clanton Creek. The family reached Colorado by 1868. The Imes family may have only been in the Fountain Valley a few years, and appear on the 1880 census in Kansas and the western slope of Colorado.
Moses J. Imes patented homestead land in section 7, T16SR65W in 1875 in Fountain. The Fairview Cemetery sits in the eastern corner of Moses Imes property, which is now largely occupied by the interstate. Moses donated the land for the cemetery to the city of Fountain. Moses and Mary Ellen Davis Imes had 13 children.

Note: The Washington State Archives, Washington State Death records, have Moses name spelled wrong. In Washington state death records his name is spelled Moses J. Ines. Records show that he died on September 23, 1914, age 90, death place, Seattle, King County, WA. Cemeteries rosters have been searched in King County, WA and the name of Moses Jackson Imes does not show in any records. It is believed that Moses is buried in Fountain, CO next to his wife, Mary Ellen Davis Imes. If further information is found regarding Moses burial place, corrections will be made to this memorial page.
