Young Mother Dies
Mrs. Walter Bayer, aged 29, the mother of a nine months old son, Michael Lewis, died at her home in Streator Friday morning after an illness of five months.
Colette Theresa Maher, a daughter of James J. and Rae Wiltz Maher was born June 22, 1909 at Rutland, ILL. She attended the Rutland schools and was also duly confirmed at the Sacred Heart Church. After she finished her schooling, she took a nurse's training at St. Mary's hospital in LaSalle, and became a registered nurse. For three years she was employed in the maternity ward in St. Mary's hospital in Streator.
On June 4, 1934, she was married to Walter Bayer of Streator, now a sergeant in the state highway police force. They made their home in Streator, and nine months ago, their son,Michael Lewis, was born to them.
Mrs. Bayer was kind and sympathetic, was a favorite among her friends, and was loyal and steadfast in her affections. She was a fine young woman, and her untimely death is deeply mourned, not only by her family, but by a wide circle of friends as well.
Surviving her are her husband and son, Michael Lewis; her father, James J. Maher of Rutland; and four sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Arch O'Neil, Miss Gladys Maher, William and Joseph Maher of Rutland, Mrs. Ora McCully of Toluca, Raymond Maher of Hillside and Mrs. Lyle Kennedy of Streator.
The funeral services were held at 9:30 o'clock, Monday morning, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Streator. A solemn requiem Mass was conducted with Father J. J. Cosgrove as celebrant; Father A.F. Timmins of Clinton, formerly pastor of Sacred Heart Church was deacon; Father Sheen, present pastor of Sacred Heart Church, was sub-deacon; and Father Farley of the Sunbury Church also assisted.
The services were attended by a very large number of relatives and friends. Burial was in the Reilly Cemetery, north of Rutland.
