MAPLEWOOD - Max Lee Bell, 75, of 9780 Tawawa- Maplewood Road, passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at 3:30 a.m. at his home.

He was born on Oct. 4, 1935, in Maplewood, the son of the late Lloyd O. and Pauline A. (Sprague) Bell.

On Sept. 26,1964, he married Ann Lee Headapohl who survives along with two children, Steve and his wife Ann, of Sidney, and Julie Lindsay and her husband Doug, of Washington, D.C.; two granddaughters, Meghan and Elsie Bell; one sister, Mrs. Mike (Jerri) Snavley, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; one brother, Ron Bell and his wife Marie, of Wildwood, Fla.; and brothers-in-law, Richard Headapohl and his wife Elizabeth, of Angels Camp, Calif., and Harry Vescoso, of Wildwood, Fla.

One sister, Becky Vescoso, preceded him in death.

Max served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 and was in the U.S. Army Reserves for four years following active duty. He was a member of the Jackson Center United Methodist Church, a member of the Maplewood Grange, the Jackson Center American Legion Post 493, and was a former Salem Township trustee.

Max's hobbies included playing cards with his friends. He loved all sports including the Ohio State teams and Nascar racing. Max was a life long grain and dairy farmer.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Sylvia Hull officiating. Burial will be at Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home and Crematory at 302 S. Main Ave. The Jackson Center American Legion Post 493 will hold a memorial service at the funeral home at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Jackson Center United Methodist Church or Wilson Hospice in Max Bell's memory. Envelope's will be provided at the funeral home.
