1784 - Born in North Carolina to STEPHEN THOMAS and his wife, MARY COVINGTON.

His Father: Stephen Thomas (1766-1825) Injured at the Battle of Eutaw Springs
His Paternal Grandfather: William "Ram Billy" Thomas (1741-1800) Served in Continental Congress
His Maternal Grandfather: John Covington (1735-1809) Supported the war effort

1796 abt. - moved to Tennesse with his parents.

1805 - At age 21, john purchased 100 acres adjoining his father's land.

In 1814, at age 29, John was a sergeant in Captain Neblett's Co., 1st Reg't., West Tennessee Militia in the WAR OF 1812. He then served as a Corporal in Capt. Robert Edmonston's Co., 1st (Dyer's) Regt. Mounted Gunmen, Tennessee Volunteers.

1814 - John married Sarah Terrell in Wayne County, Mississippi.

1817 - John was thought to have served as 3rd Sergeant in the militia against the Creek Indians under Major Gen. Andrew Jackson.

1820 Census - Mississippi shows John living in Covington County, Mississippi

1827-1828 - Representative for Jones County, Mississippi

1836-1837 - Representative for Jasper County, Mississippi

1840-1844 - Mississippi State Senator for Jasper, Smith, Newton & Scott Counties. John was a Democrat in his political views and advocated states' rights.

1850 - Residence, Jasper County, Mississippi

1860 - Residence, Bradley County, Arkansas

27 Oct 1861 - Will was written; Bradley Co., Arkansas
