Stanley D. Handleman, PhD 80, died June 11, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Gertrude, sister Doris Alkon of Long Island, New York, and other family and friends. Stan was preceded in death by his parents Irving and Eva Handleman. He received a Master Degree from Brooklyn College where he later taught. After 2 years in Colombia, he was asked by the State Department to work in El Salvador in a similar program where he served for several years. Stan continued to work for the State Department in Afghanistan and later several countries in West Africa. Dr Handleman had a passion from an early age for theater and music. He was a jazz enthusiast and even learned to play the Saxophone after retirement. He was always involved in little theater wherever he went and when he retired he continued this interest with Adobe Theater, Albuquerque Little Theater and University of NM theater department. Stan even had the opportunity to act along side James Earl Jones in "The Great White Hope" when it opened in Washington DC. He especially enjoyed getting to work with Jeanne Grealish and Jane Snow in Opera Unlimited, a special program that these ladies still devote their lives to. He is buried in Congregation Albert portion of the cemetery, but since it is fully enclosed within Fairview per French Funeral Home and the obituary names Fairview as his place of burial, it seemed best to have him here.
