Richard "Dick" Kenneth Fisher, 72, retired builder and teacher, died Sat., June 28, 2003 in Wichita, Ks. After graduating from High School in Erie, Ks in 1948, Dick attended Pittsburg Teachers College one year and then became a rural school teacher for 3 yrs. He was married to Patty Nation in 1949 and in 1950 they moved to Altoona, Ks. where he taught a 1 room school, "Fairview Dist.#42" in Rural Wilson Co. before moving to Sedgwick Ks. where they lived for 22 Yrs., They divorced in 1974.
He was a teacher in the Sedgwick School system for a number of yrs. He also taught the Vocational Building Trades Class in the Derby High School School Dist. for 8 yrs.
Dick was a general contractor in the 50's and 60's, designing and building single family homes and farm bldgs. in and around the Sedgwick Ks. area. He was an evaluator and vocational counselor in the criminal court system in the Sedgwick County Comm. Corrections for 6 years, retiring in 1989.
Dick enjoyed Fine Woodworking, (Dick requested to be buried in a Pine Box when the time came, His daughter Tara saw to it that his wishes were full filed.) Trout Fishing, Pan Fishing and Upland Bird Hunting. He most recently was served as the President of the Conway Springs. Ks. Lions Club and a volunteer worker for Friendship Meals in ConWay Springs.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday June 30, 2003 in Shaw Cemetery, Shaw, KS.
Survivors: son, Kenneth Charles, Wichita; daughter, Tara and Bob Moorman, Cedar Rapids, IA; spouse, Ruby of the home; stepdaughters; Patty Obrock, Liberal; Valera Lange, Clearwater; Lee Anne Conrady, Wichita; 8 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents Kenneth & Elsie Fisher, sister Margaret Lee Fisher and daughter Peggy Jo Fisher. Memorials to American Cancer Soc. & American Heart Assn.
