Friederich J. Vollmer was born April 16, 1856 in Munden, Grov, Hannover, Germany. He immigrated in August 1882, age 26, on the passenger ship SS Neckar from the Port of Bremen to the Port of New York. Fred married Elise Kultau in 1882. They had 3 children: Carl George, Frederick Justus and Emilie Elise.
Fred (or Fritz to family and close friends) became a citizen of the United States on September 19, 1901.
He was employed as a collector/bookkeeper for the Pittsburgh Brewing Company for most of his life.
Fred was also a member of the Free Masons...emblem carved into the headstone.
Fred was an avid outdoors man. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating...anything outside.
Fred died as a result of a fall while hunting on his friend's farm (H.R. Post). As he was standing on a slight knoll, the slippery under-footing brought him down suddenly on his back. The fall, bursting an artery, caused almost instant death.
Fred was 73.
He was my 2nd Great Grandfather.
