NEY -- Gilbert "Gil" A. Coolman, age 78, of Ney, Ohio, died at 6:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Montpelier where he had been a patient.

Gil was an engineer at General Motors and retired in 1996. After his retirement, he worked as a consultant in Mexico and later as an attendant at the Super Wash car wash in Defiance. He was also a part time farmer. He was a 1953 graduate of Edon High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War being stationed in France and Germany. Gil was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church (Marysdale), served on the parish council, was a member of the Defiance Elks and the Ney American Legion Post #680. He was a loving husband, caring father, grandpa and great-grandpa, an avid Detroit Tigers and Fairview Apache fan and was a lover of the game of basketball.

Born April 5, 1934, in Cooney, Ohio, he was the son of Olaf Doyle and Ruth (Messner) Coolman. He married Junella J. "June" Hesselschwardt on August 16, 1958, at Marysdale and she survives.

Also surviving are his children, Cindy (Mike) Siler of Ney, Steven (Barbara) Coolman of Defiance, Suzy (Jim) Kline of Hicksville, Diane (Sandy) Johns of Sherwood; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Herbert (Enola) Coolman of Tigard, Oregon, A. James (Thelma) Coolman of Bryan and sister, Christena Headley of Edon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patsy Coolman; brother, Victor Coolman and sister, Marie Dennis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church (Marysdale) with Father Robert Kill officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military rites presented by the Ney American Legion. Visitation will be held on today, October 14, 2012 from 2-8 p.m. at the Krill Funeral Home. A scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
