Sandra was the eldest of three, having a younger sister, Linda Eastburn, Tampa Florida; and a younger brother, Dick Hooper, deceased. Sandy is also survived by a very special "bonus daughter" Susan Alterman, Chicago; son-in-law, Robert Schmitt; and several nieces and a nephew and great-nieces and great-nephews. Sandy also leaves behind her faithful dachshund companions, Maggie and Gucci. Her loving husband, Ted, preceded her in death September 7, 2011.
Sandy loved music and she loved to cook. Her enjoyment in life was her family, cooking for everyone and being serenaded by Elvis. A 1960 graduate of Huntingburg High School (Ind.), Sandy married her best friend Ted in October 1961. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past fall.
Ted and Sandy shared their lives together raising their children, working and living all over the country first in Chicago, then Atlanta, New York, St. Louis, Roanoke, Chicago and finally coming back home to Defiance. They collected a lifetime of close friends, all of whom will surely miss Sandy.
A mother and friend, Sandy worked in a women's shelter in Illinois, with Ted as an art gallery owner in Roanoke, and most recently as a real estate agent with Butler Real Estate.
A memorial service to remember Sandy will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012, in Johns Creek, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family has a memorial fund to support Dachshund Rescue of Ohio. For more information see www.beindorf.com.
