George Fitzgerald worked most of his life as a public school teacher in the Chicago area. He was a friend of the creator of this memorial. His grave is in a plot with a stone for Edmund Fitzgerald (1901-1905), memorial #10128766, but the relation of this child to George is not known to the submitter. George loved cars and has once worked for Hudson Motor Company, which is the reason for the car design on his gravestone. George never married and had no children.
George's father was George Edmund Fitzgerald, born April 1, 1899 and died August 1972, both probably in Chicago. His body was donated for medical research, and his burial place is unknown. He was a lawyer in Chicago. He was divorced from his wife and George's mother, Xarefa Sarah Smith, who was born Jan. 25, 1902 in LaSalle County, Illinois, died Sept. 4, 1983 in DuPage, Illinois, and is said to be buried in her parents' family plot at a cemetery at Marseilles, LaSalle County, Illinois.
