Clifford was born in Henning, Minn., on Feb. 14, 1919, to Henry and Sena Anderson. He was one of 13 siblings. He attended Henning schools and served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1941-45, participating in the Guadalcanal, New Guinea and Philippines campaigns. He was discharged in 1945 after being wounded in the Philippines, and returned to Minnesota.
He briefly lived and worked in the Spokane area in 1948-50, then moved to East Helena in 1950 and worked for the telephone company until his retirement in 1981. During his course of employment he worked in Great Falls, Missoula, Bozeman, Lima, Anaconda, Hamilton, Drummond and finally Helena, where he has been since 1964.
On Dec. 15, 1956, he married Anna Hoerner in Deer Lodge. They had three children.
Clifford was a member of the Montana Telephone Pioneers and enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings, and granddaughter, Amy Nicole Applin.
He is survived by his wife, Anna; daughter, Carla Anderson of Helena; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Jeff Applin of Montana City and son, Jim Anderson of Billings. He is also survived by grandchildren, Christy and Eric Applin and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, at Big Sky Cremations, 2 West Main, East Helena with Pastor Keith Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Montana State Veterans Cemetery.
