Simon L. (Si) Bellamy of Gatesville, a retired insurance executive, died Oct. 17 in the local hospital. He was 74 and had been in failing health for some time.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, with Col. W. E. Buice and Rev. Curtis Beaird officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery, with Scott's in charge.
Mr. Bellamy, who lived in Coryell County most of his life, was a school teacher and probation officer before going into the insurance field. He was a member of the board of deacons of the First Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the Gatesville Masonic Lodge.
Born Sept. 28, 1905, in Dale, Mr. Bellamy was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Charles L. Bellamy. He was reared in the Turnersville community, and after graduating from high school there, attended Daniel Baker College in Brownwood.
He returned to the Turnersville area as school principal and married Miss Bonnie Touchstone on Dec. 24, 1928.
Shortly afterward, they moved to Gatesville where he taught at the State School for Boys. He was also a star pitcher on area baseball teams.
In 1943 Mr. Bellamy and his family moved to Austin, where he served as chief probation officer. He was assistant superintendent of the Gatesville State School in 1951-52, later returning to Austin to enter the insurance field. He was a field representative for National Western Life Insurance company until his retirement in 1970, when he and his wife returned to Gatesville.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Bert (Charmaine) Simmons of Pasadena and Mrs. W. E. (Jo Ann) Buice of Ellsworth Air Force Base, S. D.; one sister, Mrs. 0. H. (Jim) Gardner of Megargel; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
His grandsons served as pallbearers for Mr. Bellamy's funeral.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the First Baptist Church along with Dr. Kermit Jones, John C. Bradford, Bill McMordie, Rip Davis, Jack Morse, Murry Blakley and Fred Dyer.
